Abe's Garden seeks to establish a national model of residential living and daycare programs for those suffering with Alzheimer's disease and dementia throughout the United States. Its goal is to provide an unprecedented level of care and comprehensive array of services for individuals suffering from these diseases in Middle Tennessee. Equally important, it will be a site of research and teaching, setting a new standard for future programs and facilities caring for our nation’s rapidly expanding senior population.
The Metro Planning Commission and thereafter, the Metro Council, speedily and unanimously approved the organization’s special (SP) zoning proposal. The SP zoning included self-imposed environmentally friendly standards such as improved impervious surface ratio and establishing a permanent conservation easement.
Abe’s Garden will be the first in the United States to partner with a major medical university to transform the full continuum of care of individuals suffering from Alzheimer’s disease, while also serving as a center of research and training in this field of study.
Abe’s Garden will complete the construction of the entire project in phases. Phase one is comprised of a 51,000 sq.ft. addition and renovation to Park Manor Senior Lifestyle Community. Upon completion of Phase I, Abe’s Garden will include: 12 programmatically designed, full continuum of care, residential suites for individuals suffering from Alzheimer’s disease and other age-related dementias; and The Club at Abe’s Garden, a 9,500 sq.ft. evidence-based adult day care program serving twenty-four participants with these diseases. Also included in Phase I is 5,700 sq.ft. of shell space for a research and training center; renovation to Park Manor, required as a result of the aforementioned repurposing; and site work consisting of grading, extensive landscaping, a new driveway, and two parking areas benefiting all programs.
Upon completion of subsequent phases, Abe’s Garden will be a family-friendly campus; intentionally designed for the expanding population of Middle Tennessee seniors, their families, and caregivers. In addition to the 20 non-memory care assisted living suites (currently under construction) and the 84 independent living apartments that comprise Park Manor, the Abe’s Garden campus will contain four respite and 36 programmatically designed, full continuum of care memory residential suites; an empirically designed research and training center; and a three acre park.
