What are the ongoing needs at Abe’s Garden?

A gift designated “where needed most” supports the following core values of the Abe’s Garden mission:

  • Quality, compassionate person-centered care and engagement opportunities for those with Alzheimer’s and other dementias.
  • Ongoing research, data collection, continuous evaluation and sharing of best practices
  • Innovative, impactful community-based services

What is the Access to Care Fund?

When Abe’s Garden residents or members of The Club or Abe’s Garden Community Group need help paying the full cost of care and services, they can apply to receive financial assistance. This assistance is made possible when generous individuals or foundations contribute to the Access to Care Fund.

Advice for caregivers to engage loved ones with dementia:

Start with simple tasks that offer success. If it is not successful, put the blame on yourself. “I am so sorry, I didn’t get you the right supplies,” even if that isn’t the truth.

Begin the activity working together at first. If they don’t know how to do it, they will mirror you.

Praise in an adult way. Thank them after each purposeful task.

Invite and encourage them to participate by saying “I need your help. Please help me.”
